Organizing, cleaning, and attention to aesthetic details have always been my passion for as long as I can remember. At the age of 12, I started babysitting, and tidying up while looking after other people’s kids, which put me in demand at a whopping $1.00 per hour!
I started Simply Organized by Valerie after enjoying a 20 plus year career working for space planners, architects, engineers, and interior designers. Every design firm I worked for – I repurposed the space around me for form and function. I re-engineered filing systems and storage systems for timely retrieval of documents, proposals, art and photographs, and design boards for interviews.
I love to cook and entertain. I knew I was on to something when my friends took notice of my home and offered to pay me to help them organize and decorate their residential spaces. All told, I think of myself as the late architect Michael Graves, known for not seeing things as they are but for what they could be.
I am passionate about working one on one with clients and learning about their specific needs. By using several organizational methods, I can customize the process to fit each client for lasting results making organization more manageable. I have devoted most of my life to managing and arranging estates and small offices. Just like a college degree, the curriculum starts with theory and philosophy. There are many “Stuff Management Theories/Methods” dating back to the seventies including Hagen, Hemphill, Morgenstern, Your Way, and the latest, the KonMarie Method. My approach is to tailor a plan that meets your specific needs.
My range of expertise includes working with families to widows, and the elderly. So, whether it’s your closet, garage, or your entire home, allow me to work with you to create functional space around you that invites balance, harmony, and order so that you can spend more time pursuing the things that you love and enjoy.
I truly enjoy the combination of creativity and precision that bring a result of discarding, having an eye for simple design, layout, and functionality that bring clean, satisfying and immediate results. I am the kind of person who subscribes to Cook’s Illustrated, Real Simple, Martha Stewart Living, and the Smithsonian.
I am a life-long learner. I read every article and book I can get my hands on about productivity and organization (as time permits). If I am going to take the time of doing something such as preparing a meal or improving my environment, I aim for the best results.
I hold an MA from Gonzaga University in Communication and Leadership, a BSc from Portland State University in Community Development and Housing and Economic Development, and an AAOT in Journalism from Mt. Hood Community College
I am a professional member of the National Association of Productivity and Organization (NAPO) and hold certifications in Residential Organizing, Workplace Productivity, and Life Transitions. I am also in life long training as a coach, and consultant. I love to bring out the best in others, clean, organize, and tidy and these are natural born gifts.
